Coronation Street to air shock sepsis storyline

Coronation Street is to air a shock sepsis storyline which will see a much-loved character fighting for their life.

The storyline will begin when the character, who has not yet been named, is rushed to hospital after collapsing at home. Doctors will initially be baffled by their symptoms, but will eventually diagnose them with sepsis.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to an infection. It can lead to organ failure and death, and is the third biggest killer in the UK.

The storyline will raise awareness of the condition and highlight the importance of seeking medical help as soon as possible if you think you may have it.

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod said: "This storyline is a really important one for us to tell. Sepsis is a devastating condition that can strike anyone, at any time. We hope that by raising awareness of the condition, we can help to save lives."
