Chad Daybell has been convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the 2019 deaths of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and his stepchildren, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan. The verdict comes after a nearly two-month trial that wrapped up on Thursday. "This is a tragic case that has devastated two families," said Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake. "We are grateful for the jury's verdict, which we believe is a just outcome." Daybell's attorney, John Prior, said he was "disappointed" with the verdict and planned to appeal. The case began in July 2019, when Tammy Daybell was found dead in her Salem, Idaho, home. JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan were last seen in September 2019, and their bodies were found buried on Daybell's property in June 2020. During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Daybell had planned and carried out the murders with the help of his then-wife, Lori Vallow. Vallow is also charged with murder in the case, but she is currently undergoing a competency evaluation. Daybell's conviction is a major victory for prosecutors, who have been working for years to bring him to justice. It is also a step toward closure for the families of the victims. "We are relieved that Chad Daybell has been held accountable for his crimes," said JJ Vallow's father, Larry Vallow. "We hope this brings some peace and closure to our family."
