Nail-Biting Encounter Sets Up Thrilling Second Leg

Goalless Second Half, Thrilling Shootout

Real Madrid and Manchester City played out a pulsating 1-1 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday. The Spanish giants took the lead through Karim Benzema's penalty in the first half, but Manchester City equalized through Riyad Mahrez's strike just before the break.

The match was a tale of two halves, with Real Madrid dominating the first 45 minutes and Manchester City coming into their own in the second. The hosts started brightly and had several chances to score before Benzema finally broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 24th minute.

Manchester City responded well and began to control possession as the first half wore on. They equalized through Mahrez in the 33rd minute, and the Algerian winger almost gave his team the lead just before the break, but his shot struck the post.

The second half was a more even affair, with both teams creating chances but neither able to find the winning goal. Real Madrid had the better of the chances early on, but Manchester City grew into the game and had their own opportunities to take the lead.

The match went to penalties, with Real Madrid emerging victorious 4-3. The Spanish side will now take a slender advantage into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium on May 4.
